The Pirate Party Switzerland is young party, founded on July 12, 2009. It sees itself as representing the "digital generation," whose interests, as its members believe, are inadequately acknowledged by the political establishment. The Pirate Party Switzerland is part of a worldwide movement which began in Sweden in 2006. Since then over thirty Pirate Parties have formed around the globe, the number rising.
To concentrate on its core issues the Pirate Party does not take a position on other matters. This does not mean that its candidates for office have no opinion on subjects outside the core issues or may not express them. The Party sees itself as neither right nor left, but "out in front".

The Pirate Party has as its goal to bring these concerns to the Swiss Parliament and represent them there. It is currently fielding 39 candidates in nine voting districts for the elections to the Council of Zurich Canton on April 3, 2011. The Pirate Party Switzerland today has more than 1200 members.
