  • Pirates enter the Berlin State Parliament with 9%

    DblDigger

The Berlin Pirates join with SPD, Greens, CDU und the Left; they will take an estimated 14 seats in the House of Representatives. The Pirate Party, founded only five years ago, surpassed thereby the FDP, which failed in their re-election bid. The Pirates now build the fifth-largest coalition.

Few had considered this possible a month ago, but it's happened: the Pirates have entered the Berlin State Parliament and received nearly four times as many votes as the German FDP. With this result the Pirates enter for the first time a parliament of a German Federal State. For Denis Simonet it is no coincidence: "For many it's a small sensation. But the Pirates, which are found meanwhile in over 40 countries, have always been competition to be seriously reckoned with for the established parties. This election result proves it.»

Swiss Pirates take part in National Parliament elections

Elections are coming up soon here in Switzerland as well. The Pirate Party Switzerland is fighting in seven cantons (AG, BE, BS, FR, GE, VD, ZH) for a seat in the National Parliament and has fielded 57 candidates for the campaign. «The great success of the Berlin Pirates is the result of a tireless battle for our freedom, a battle which we continue with our parliamentary elections. The results in Berlin dispose us to do the same here on October 23," says Simonet. With the seat in the Winterthur City Parliament the Pirates have shown that they are ready for it.
